I bought our Compact 300 13 months ago. I bought it to replace a tiny micro Flymo jobby that had done us 10 years faithful service before it expired shortly after we moved to a bigger house and garden.

This one came with a 1-year manufacturer's guarantee and lots of stickers urging me to call to activate a 3-year parts 'n' labour warranty. Along with some small-print telling me that will cost another 50% of purchase price. Which I therefore ignored. You can tell where this tale is going: the motor seized solid on me tonight only 5 minutes in to my (hour? something like that) weekly mow. So I look around the net and find I'm not alone, either by model or by brand.

Stupid thing is I have been perfectly happy with the performance of this mower up to now: cuts OK, is decently manoeuvrable, collects well enough for my purposes and has been the right size for our garden. But none of that is relevant now, because I have to say that my overwhelming recommendation is to AVOID this model and think hard before getting a Flymo of any sort. I strongly advise potential buyers to do a search for "flymo" and "seized motor" before purchasing.

For myself, I won't be repairing it and I definitely will not be buying Flymo again.

I bought this mower because it was light and I have to carry the mower up a flight of six steps to go from the front lawn to the back. Ok so far. However I long I spend cutting the grass I spend as long again clearing up the grass from the patio windows which get spattered, the patio itself which is now stained and all the pathways to stop grass being trodden into the house. Also it does tend to "scorch" on slopes. What a waste of money - back to old faithful (but slow) manual.........

This is the 2nd one i've used. The first I bought, a year later (after constantly changing blades!) the motor seized and caught fire. As my sister gave me her older Flymo (same model but had broken handle bars),I decided to take the bars off mine and made hers like new again. This older model had steel blades so shouldn't fail (unlike my plastic ones). But the plastic on the front of the mower kept breaking off. Although operable, it's now useless unless I drag it round. I can't believe a company specialising in garden equipment only designs for temporary usage. Everyone I know buys these every other summer!

As a lot of other people here have experienced, the motor packed up on me too, just over a year after buying it. Stay away.

Flymo Hover Compact 300 Electric Hover Mower
I purchased this based on price antisipating a cheap, and cheerfull mower that would do for my small lawn.
However It is excellent, for a hover mower it collects the grass, is very light weight, and easy to move, with several height cutting levels.
This is a better model than some of the more expensive models I have had previously.
Excellent value for Money.
